Courier Services saying no?!

I returned from Iraq recently, bearing small souveniers for a few close friends. Incidently, one of those friends lives in the U.A.E, and is down to visit his family in Islamabad – his father is seriously unwell, please pray “amma yujeeb-ul muz-tarra iza da’ao wa yakshey fuuss soo” for his well being.

Anyhow, I wanted to send across a mini version of the Quran Pak, for his father’s well being.

And I went to one courier service, a very popular one infact- and you can imagine my amazement when they said, “we’re not allowed”. I was astounded. What is the country coming to! you can’t ship the Holy Book? Then they explained..that be-adabi (disrespect) is possible. Someone might throw the box or treat it roughly, and they can’t take the sin on their heads. I tried to appeal to the humanity in them, and rouse their compassion…that it was for someone seriously unwell – but they weren’t allowed to accept.

I tried another courier service, and another – finally, at the third one, the owner was a lady, and I was able to appeal to her the reasons why it was NECCESSARY this be sent right away  – my friend is leaving shortly too…

God bless her soul (Ameen). She had it sent.

I was taken by surprise by the refusal of the others…. I mean, for religious things.

  2. Why couldn’t you buy a plane ticket and drop it off by yourself?

  3. well they have a point! be-adabi is very much possible!

  5. I think the more serious matter to be noted from this episode is that the Qur’an is not a series of matter printed on paper; it is much nobler and wealthier than that. It is the message in those words which is the Qur’an, not the pieces of paper. It is sad that we have reduced its respect to simply putting a binding on our top-shelves; respect for The Book means to study and apply it in our lives, not to place its book-form in neat and cosy places.

  6. How’d the trip to Iraq go?

  7. hmm..well put
but I think its also good for protection
and to bring blessings to a room, or to a person…

point being, it reached my friends dad, Alhamdolillah
    and he loved it.. :)
I hope Allah accepts the gesture.
    Ameen
